The day when the first FWD BMW is going to be unveiled is sooner than we think. Up until now we’ve seen various spyshots and videos of the future 1 Series GT but all of them were showing early prototypes so we didn’t think that the engineers and designers were really close to finishing the car.
As it turns out, we were wrong. BMW Sales Chief, Ian Robertson, gave a statement at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, last week, that left us puzzled: the Active Tourer will arrive stateside in 2015.

That means that the car could make its debut even earlier, on other markets. Furthermore, the new model, that will be using the same platform as the MINI Cooper and other FWD Bimmers to be launched, will be making a push into new segments.

"You will see BMW push into segments where we haven't been before. With the Active Tourer, we will get a lot of new customers again. They will come out of the premium segment and from some of the volume players,” said Robertson.

The LWB model was also confirmed by the BMW chief, saying that there will also be a version with a 3rd row of seats available, just as we speculated before.
