BMW 8 Series Rendering Looks Like a Dream Come True

Yes, the 8 Series has been out of production for over 16 years now but the Coupe is still fondly remembered by the BMW community and a lot of us would like to see it come back to life. Rumors about such a possibility spread around the internet last year, but no official confirmation ever came.

With the new 7 Series now out it seems like out imagination is going wild once again, this time fueled by the new flagship from BMW. Within the current way of doing business in Munich, the 8 Series would be a coupe version of the 7 Series and this is exactly what we have here, in the shape of a rendering courtesy of X-Tomi Design.

Yes, the Hungarian artist took the rear doors off and added a coupe-like roofline, and it’s pretty obvious but it also looks incredibly good, doesn’t it? To me, such a proposition would also make sense, especially considering BMW’s rivalry with Mercedes-Benz.

It seems like the two companies made a vow recently to have a rival for every model in their respective line-ups. For example, BMW launched the 2 Series Active Tourer, a direct competitor for the B-Class from Mercedes-Benz that used to be unchallenged in its niche segment.

Then Mercedes-Benz struck back with its GLE Coupe, a direct hit at the BMW X6, a car deemed as useless by most people out there anyhow. Well, it drew the attention of the Stuttgart-based company so there must be something to it after all.

So what about the S-Class Coupe? BMW has no rival for it at the moment, leaving it all alone in its luxurious segment. The 8 Series would be a perfect candidate to give the Merc a run for its money but as far as we can tell, the Bavarians are not convinced just yet. We’ll have to see if the new CEO, Mr. Kruger, will have a different take on the matters.
