BMW 8 Series Could Be a Possibility In the Future - Report

When the Gran Lusso Coupe was released by BMW in collaboration with Pininfarina, the world of BMW fans immediately wondered if we could possibly see a 8 Series revival in the future.
That was because the car shared the same base character lines and design cues as the model that was pulled out of production at the end of the 90s. Furthermore, just like the 8er, the Gran Lusso Coupe had a V12 engine under the bonnet.

Surely, if a revival of the Coupe was indeed in the works, a V12 might be excluded (since we have all these pesky CO2 limits around) but that shape must be put to good use.

Asked about a possible 8 Series based on the Gran Lusso Coupe, BMW's Research and Development Chief, Herbert Diess, said to Autocar that a decision will be reached in the future.

“The Gran Lusso concept was very well received. We’re looking into the possibility of production, but a decision is still a way off,” he said. That could be taken in two different ways.

First: BMW is not thinking about it now and it will never do. Second: It is a possibility but just not right now. We prefer to go with the seconds. Call us crazy!
