BMW 507, Z8, M1 Make the Edmunds Top 100 Supercars of All Time

Waiting for the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show and probably pretty bored, the guys from Edmunds embarked on a quest to list and rank the top 100 supercars of all time. Such a top has its utility but in the end, we think it would be impossible to differentiate the cars in a clear manner.

The fact is, we're curious how they managed to rank them, as there are some pretty impressive automobiles in this top, all of them being 'super' in their own way. Out of BMW's near 100 year history, 3 models were chosen, even though according to most specialist, BMW had only one true supercar in the shape of the M1.

And the M1 is listed highest in this top, reaching the 24th spot, higher than the 1992 Dodge SRT Viper and shy of the 2005 Ford GT. The Z8 comes next in Edmunds' preferences, on 56th place, above the 1992 Jaguar XJ220 and below the 2010 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series.

Last, but not least, a favorite here at the autoevolution team, the 1957 BMW 507 arrives in 97th place, defeating the 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 and losing to the 1977 Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

As the guys said, not all of the cars included in the test could actually be called 'supercars' by the meaning we all know today, but they are all 'super' in their own way and we're definitely proud that 3 BMWs made it to the list.
