For some idiotic reason, the guys from The Fast Lane Car got it in their heads that any kind of Lexus and any kind of BMW are perfect to be put in a dog race.
Leaving aside the fact that a company founded around 20 years ago can’t possibly rival one that’s about to turn 100, the Japanese are still claiming that their cars are at least as good as BMWs. In your dreams!
Now, getting back to the drag race at hand here, pitting the 435i Convertible against a crossover SUV like the Lexus RX is a bad idea from the get go. Nothing works for the RX here.
The car they had was an RX 350 F Sport AWD. That means it’s using a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine making 270 HP and 248 lb-ft (336 Nm) of torque and it weighs just a little over 2 tons.
The BMW is in a whole different universe compared to this SUV. It has a turbocharged 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine making 306 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque and weighs a lot less, doing the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in just 5.5 seconds.
With such numbers, Roman didn’t even have to use launch control to win the race. He just started off in Sport mode as if nothing happened and the German car delivered what was expected of it.
While we did have a laugh watching the guys ‘review’ the two, we’d really like it a lot if we saw proper competitors pitted against each other and not whatever they find in the parking lot.
PS: we do get the concept of a 'mashup', things are getting out of hand lately...
