In the traditional BMW 4 Series review style, the guys from Bimmerfile too, start out by wondering if the 4er is a worthy replacement for the 3er Coupe and, inevitably, end up with the same conclusion: YES!
The fact is that the 4 Series is better than the 3er but what may surprise you, is the fact that it's keeping the 3er Coupe spirit alive and you can feel it everywhere. From the front fascia that looks like the F30 models, to the interior where little has changed.

On the road though, is where you'll notice the big differences. That's because the 4er is lower, wider and stiffer than the F30 3 Series, just as it should very well be. The 428i model they tested came with the N20 4-cylinder 2-liter turbocharged unit that develops the all-familiar 245 ponies and plenty of torque.

Whilst some might compare this model to the 435i, the comparison is not really fair. The thing is that the 428i feels more balanced and nimble and that is easy to explain. The bigger engine on the 435i adds to the front weight, messing with the weight distribution, meaning that you might end up having more fun in the N20-powered model.

With better fuel economy and better price, the 428i is a worthy opponent for the 435i. However, the ones looking for pure performance on the paper, will still go for the 306 HP beast, that can reach 340 with the M Performance Parts, turning into the best Coupe in its class for the moment.
