BMW 4 Series Test Drive by Car Advice

The brand new Coupe from BMW (no, not the 2 Series), the 4 Series just arrived in Australia and test drives are starting to pour in. The guys from Car Advice were amongst the first, of course.

The cars they had for a quick test drive were both on the frugal and the exciting sides. First they were disappointed by what they called ‘a three and a half star car’, the 420d. The car they had for reviewing purposes had its tires overinflated and no adaptive suspension, giving them  a lot of headaches.

Then came the brilliant 428i that is fitted, as standard, with adaptive dampers and the 8-speed auto gearbox in Australia, next to some other impressive kit like  fog lights, reversing camera with front and rear sensors, bi-xenon headlights, LED interior lights, auto lights and wipers, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and an 8.8-inch display with satellite navigation with 20GB storage.

The engine is brilliant in this car and you never feel slow but rather faster than what BMW is claiming the car is capable of. Compared to its competitors, the 428i blows them out of the water, the Mercedes-Benz C250  and A5 2.0 TFSI Coupe being miles behind it both on fuel consumption and performance.

The 435i, on the other hand, was even better but the small differences between the two didn’t completely justify the pricing scheme so the guys had to stick with the 428i model if they had to recommend one of the three to anyone.
