With the somewhat bland and conservative styling of BMW’s new 3-Series, we were hoping that the coupe version of the car, now dubbed the 4-Series, would bring back some of the aggressive character people usually expect when buying a BMW. Now, courtesy of some leaked pictures, we can confirm that the 4-Series is, as promised, a much meaner-looking offering, and much more of a looker than its four-door counterpart.
The car in the photos, while not the exact production version, is most definitely the near-production concept which will be shown at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show, next month. Aside from the front bumper, headlights, grille, rear bumper and rims, what you see here is the actual production car, with the production interior to which BMW has operated some minor trim modifications, and special leather upholstery to keep the ‘concept’ theme going.

An interesting addition to the design are the ‘side gills’ which will make it onto the production car, as seen on the car which was captured by our spies, here. Also, the side profile of the car is one of the sleekest and cleanest we’ve seen on a BMW in a long time, and bar the boring silver paintjob, it really looks good - would look even better in red, blue or even yellow.

The engine range will be carried over from the four-door sedan, bar the lowest-powered versions, and some engines may get a small increase in power to emphasize the more sporty nature of the coupe. Also, the range will be completed by a convertible and a four-door version of the car, called the 4-Series Grand Coupe, as well as M4 versions of both.
