Whoever said that the 4 Series will be a BMW flop can now, officially bite their own tongue. The brand new model from Munich was just listed amongst the top 3 cars in the world, competing for the World Car of the Year award.
A while back we told you about the long list for the coveted distinction that included several models from Bavaria amongst which the 4er was the clear favorite. Today, we’re proud to be back telling you that it has more than 30% chances of winning.

The other two cars that made it to the short list are the Audi A3 and Mazda3, both brilliant in their own way. However, amongst the cars that didn’t make it so far you’ll find names like Cadillac CTS, Lexus IS and other heavyweights.

This year, the winners will be split in categories, each one having 3 different contenders on the short list. The World Luxury Car of the year award will be disputed by the Bentley Flying Spur, Mercedes S-Class and Range Rover Sport.

In the Sports Car Category you’ll find the Corvette Stingray, Ferrari 458 Speciale and the Porsche 911 GT3 (which incidentally is investigated for fire hazard related issues) while another BMW is competing for the title of world car design and green car of the year award, the i3.

For the former category, the EV will go up against Mazda3 and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class while in the latter the competition will be represented by Volkswagen’s XL1 and Audi’s A3 Sportback g-tron, the winners to be announced at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, later on this year.
