BMW 340i M Performance Power Kit in the Works

The new BMW 340i didn’t even make it in dealerships worldwide and we’re already learning new things about it. According to one of our sources in Munich, the new top-spec model of the 3 Series range has an M Performance Power Kit in the works.

This would be the perfect replacement for the current offering that is offered to those looking to upgrade their 335i or 435i models. That’s a kit that takes the overall power output up to 320 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque, numbers that are now close to the standard figures of the 340i.

The facelifted model will have the new B58 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine under the bonnet making 326 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. Therefore, what’s left on the performance side of things for it? Well, we’ll have to take a look at the competitors to figure that out.

The most important one will be the C-Class C 450 AMG Sport that uses a 3-liter V6 engine putting out 367 HP and 521 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque. Since BMW is known for preferring exact numbers, we’re going to guess the new M PPK will offer 40 to 50 extra horsepower taking the grand total up to 370 HP. At the same time, the torque figure would go up to 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) at the very least (a 50 Nm increase).

Those figures would allow the M PPK-equipped 340i models to show their Mercedes rivals a thing or two. At the moment, the C450 AMG Sport with the 7-speed automatic gearbox and 4Matic all-wheel drive transmission is slower to 100 km/h (62 mph) than an xDrive 340i. The difference is just 0.2 seconds (4.9 versus 5.1) but it will still matter for potential owners. The upgraded BMW should take things even further.
