BMW confirmed today that the new F30 328d model will be present at the New York Auto Show that starts on March 27. Along with the new diesel 3 Series model, the Active Tourer Concept will also make an appearance at the NY venue.
The presence of the Active Tourer in NY at the end of this month means one of two things: either they made up their minds and decided they want to sell it on the American market or they just want to measure the way people react to it, in order to see if it would be possible to introduce across the Atlantic too.
The 328d has already been confirmed by BMW to start production this July and arrive at American dealers starting with September as a 2014 model. This marks a new chapter in BMW history as the F30 3 Series will be the first one of its kind from the propeller badged company to be sold as a diesel on US soil.
The diesel engine of the 328d will be a 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo unit with 180 HP and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque that will average a fuel consumption of 40 mpg (6 l/100km). With this engine, the 3er goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds which is actually not bad at all. With such numbers the 328d will be regarded, once again, as the new benchmark in its class.
