Say what you like about the evolution of the BMW brand over the years, but you have to hand it to the guys working to create one of Germany's best known products: they still can build them. And if the models currently on the road aren't enough to convince you of that, then here's a little something that might: the 328 Hommage concept.

Bringing together, into one package, both the futuristic lines seen on the very recent Vision ConnectedDrive and the unforgettable ones of past BMWs, the 328 Hommage has been built by BMW as a tribute (and at the same time a surprise appearance) at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este, which kicks off this weekend.

The information released by BMW about the concept points to the fact that the 328 Hommage is nothing more than a birthday cake. One intended to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the 328 Roadster and to honor its creators..

“"With the BMW 328 Hommage, we wish to pay homage to the passion and inventiveness of the fathers of the BMW 328", said Karl Bäumer, CEO of BMW Group Classic. "They created an icon, which is considered a milestone in the history of the automobile."

Under the hood of the model, BMW hid a powerful three litre, six-cylinder engine, of an undisclosed output. The body of the car, or at least most of it, is made of that wonder new material called carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), meaning that the weight of the model has been kept to a minimum.

And we can go on and on about what was put into the car to make it a perfect concept. But, technical details aside, the 328 Hommage was intended as a show car, one that blends old and new into one of the best looking concepts we've seen all year. So forget about the numbers, and enjoy the gallery below.
