Not too long ago, our ‘Spidey Senses’ tingled when we read a fresh press release from BMW talking about this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. It was a rather interesting issue because it hid some easter eggs.
That being said, we noticed that one phrase said something about two exciting new concepts that were bound for the famous event. Knowing BMW and their past work, we knew that the simply had to be coming with something new.

Today we received confirmation of our hunch and the Germans just announced that they will be unveiling the new BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage concept for the first time at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

According to them, this will be the BMW Design Team’s tribute for the iconic 3.0 CSL, a timeless classic and a true embodiment of the BMW Coupe as we all know it and as it should be.

The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage is a nod to the engineering achievement exemplified by the BMW 3.0 CSL in its lightweight design and performance. The Hommage draws on the character of the earlier model and endows it with cutting-edge materials to translate it into the present in a new and exciting guise,” says the German group in a new press release.

Well, we’re terribly excited about it and if the sketch released is anything to go on, things are looking rather nice. As far as we can tell, the body has some really interesting curves that seem to combine elements from the i8 with styling cues from the old 3.0 CSL.

As far as the interior goes, apparently designers wanted to make it as Spartan as possible. That being said, there isn’t one element in there that doesn’t fit in or have a practical meaning. However, the materials used are of the best quality, and the fit and finish should be exemplary.

If we’d be asked for an informed guess on what production model will take up cues from this concept, we’d bet our money on the new M2 but we’ll have to wait a little longer to see if we’re right. Until then, you can check out the full concept at the Villa d’Este.
