The new BMW F30 3 Series easily won a contest against its top 5 competitors in a challenge organized by Cars.com, USA Today and MotorWeek. The tests included instrumented measurements, street driving, long distance trips and race track testing.
The other 5 competitors were the Volvo S60 T5 AWD Premier, Acura TL 3.7 SH-AWD Tech, Cadillac ATS 2.0T Performance, Audi A4 2.0T Quattro Tiptronic and the Mercedes-Benz C250 Sport.

The 328i Bimmer they tested won every performance and comfort test and even went on and went on to win the actual shopper's choice. The publications asked people who were in the market for a sports sedan what they would prefer and the 3er claimed the most votes.

The first test, regarding performance tested the cars' sprints to 60mph (96 km/h) and the distance needed to stop afterwards. The 328i won with 6.62 seconds and 118.9 feet (36.24 m) whilst the Mercedes-Benz, for example, did the same work in 8.23 seconds and 130.4 feet (40 m).

When it came to mileage, the BMW won again, with a combined fuel consumption of 28.1 mpg (8,37 l/100km) while the runner up was the Audi A4 with 26.4 mpg (8.9 l/100km) and the Benz recorded only 25 mpg (9.4 l/100km).

Looking at the amazing numbers the 3er returned it's clear, once again, that the 6th generation 3 Series is still the benchmark of its class and it's not likely that anything will change too soon.
