The 3 Series Touring has been a favorite amongst the preferences of European BMW customers for decades now. However, things are a bit different on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, where the Tourings were never too popular. This year though, we'll be seeing the F31 3 Series make a comeback on the North American market and the BMWUSA website now has an official configurator for this car.
The Touring combines the practicality of the crossover with the feel of a sedan, offering its customers the best of both worlds. However, on the US Market, the BMW crossovers (like the X1 and X3) are extremely popular and might pose a serious threat for the sales of the F31 3 Series.

The configurator shows us exactly what BMW's intentions are for this model in the US: they definitely don't expect this one to be a top seller. There is no manual gearbox option, and also no rear-wheel drive option. Actually, the only Sports Wagon you can get right now is the 328i xDrive, with an automatic 8-speed Steptronic gearbox, which is rather disappointing for the American Touring enthusiast.

The Touring configurator also shows the available optional packages for this car that include the Sport, Luxury, Modern and M-Sport Lines. The 328i Touring will have a 2-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine delivering 245 HP and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque with a combined fuel efficiency of 34.1 mpg (6.9 l/100km).

Future plans might include the release of a 328d version of the Touring, along with the release of the 328d Sedan, later this year. That means that the F31 will be getting the same 2-liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine with 180 HP and 280lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque found on the European 320d version which has a combined fuel efficiency of 51.1 mpg (4.6 l/100km).
