It's easy to state that, when hitting the Nurburgring, the racing line is everything, whether you're in an actual racecar or simply attending a Touristenfharten (Tourist Days) event. But what does it all mean in real life? Well, for one thing, those who miss the racing line on the infamous German track can easily learn why the circuit has the Green Hell nickname.
Case in point with the BMW racecar in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page. The E90 3er met the guardrail during a VLN event that was held over the weekend.

We can see the 325i racer missing the apex of a turn and this is where the ordeal of the sedan begins. The Bavarian machine struggles to stay on the track and it only takes just one extra bend to make things worse.

Once it passes through the following corner, we can notice the BMW running wide, with the car eventually leaving the track.

As it often happens in such scenarios, the understeer quickly turns into oversteer once the car enters the grass on the side of the track. And, despite the driver's efforts, the posterior of the 3er slides right into the protection element on the side of the circuit.

Things didn't stop there, as the BMW kept spinning, with the car coming back on the tarmac. In fact, only a few inches separated this shenanigan from turning into a double crash, as the 325i nearly got in the way of an Opel that had been trailing it.

Fortunately, the driver of the Astra racecar managed to avoid the impact, so the 3er was the only machine damaged here.

P.S.: Given the soundtrack delivered by those witnessing the race, the aural side of the video below is just as intense as its visual one.
