The guys from Car Advice don't really like BMW, it's becoming quite obvious. Along the years, every review we read on their website seemed a bit bias. No BMW ever made was good enough to receive 5 stars from them.
This week it was the 3 Series GT's turn to get trashed by them. They set out to test the 328i model on Australian roads. That means they had a 2-liter turbocharged unit at their disposal, that develops 245 HP and 350 Nm of torque.
Hooked up to the majestic, impeccable (and any other adjective you might wanna add here) 8-speed gearbox,the car has plenty of grunt to face any obstacle, even when completely packed with people and luggage.
That's actually what it was made for and not a track experience. For that you have the M3. But the guys from Car Advice insist that the dynamics of the car are bad. What did you expect?
Sure, it's still a BMW and should retain that agile feeling and it has it, but you simply cannot expect a car that is bigger than the Touring model and on par with a 5 Series to have the same dynamics as the 3 Series Sedan.
Moving on, they did find some good things too. As we said, the engine-transmission combo is unbeatable and the rear-seat legroom will be satisfying for anyone, even those used to a 7 Series.
The boot is big an easy to use (thanks to the clever tailgate), the iDrive system became the benchmark in the field and the handling is smooth (figure that!), things we already knew and that were expected from such a car.
