BMW has invested heavily in new models, seemingly coming out with something every two months. In May, it was the brand new X5, followed earlier this week by the i3 electric car. In fact, we're struggling to think of a single Bimmer on sale that's older than 2 years.

However diverse their lineup is, most of BMW's sales come from relatively compact cars, like the 1 Series and 3 Series. But soon, the gap between these two will be plugged by the new 2 Series. Coming in 2014 initially as a coupe, this will fill up the space left when the 3er became bigger and replace the old 1 Series two door models.

We recently found a video of a prototype 2 Series Convertible (code name F23) testing on the Nurburgring. The car appears to be either a 235i or the M235i, and we're inclined towards the latter due to the low profile tires it uses.

If that's the case, than the car has 320 hp coming from its 3-liter engine.

Speaking of engines, the 2 Series will likely be available as the 228i and 235i in the US, with Europeans also getting a choice of 220i, 225i, 218d, 220d and 225d.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
