In an early press release, the Los Angeles Auto Show organizers announced that BMW will be bringing two world premieres and the new 2 Series Convertible at the event in November. If the two premieres seem to be the X5 M and X6 M, the 2 Series range will be represented by the 228i and M235i.
Those will also be the only ones to be sold in the US, at least for now. The worldwide offering includes two more models, one on petrol and one using diesel fuel. We’re talking about the entry level 220i and the new-age 220d that uses a new engine altogether.

In the US, the entry-level model will be the 228i, of course. Using a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine making 245 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque the drop top is also pretty fast, doing the benchmark speed of 62 mph in 6 seconds flat. Prices will start at $33,850.

On the other hand, the M Performance model will also be offered, coming with a new suspension, new brakes and an upgraded engine. The 3-liter 6-cylinder inline turbocharged mill makes 326 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. Despite being heavier than the Coupe model, this one is only marginally slower, the automatic doing the usual 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in 5 seconds.

Both of them will be on display in Los Angeles for the audience along other models from BMW and MINI.

What else will be new?

The MINI range will also feature some premieres for the US market. The 5-door Hardtop model has been confirmed as part of the line-up as well as the futuristic MINI Superleggera Vision Concept that was unveiled earlier this year at Villa d’Este.

The car, developed in collaboration with coach-builder Superleggera, points to a new stage in the life of the British car maker that is poised to get back on track in the future.

Powered by an electric motor, it’s supposed to reshape the way we think about transportation and how we impact the environment. Furthermore, it’s also meant to tell us which way the design is moving and we’re rather optimistic about that.

Even so, it’s a sure thing that the big, gas guzzlers will still draw the most attention and the stands where the X5 M and X6 M models will be on display will most likely be full.
