When you’re out there on the German Autobahn, testing the prototype for the upcoming BMW 2 Series, there must be a lot of thoughts going through your head. Not crashing is obviously one of the major concerns, but sometimes things go horribly wrong and this was recently the case with a BMW 2 Series test vehicle.
The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed on the A72 Autobahn, in the proximity of Zwickau, when he lost control of the car. The 2 Series hit the guardrail and the crash ws so violent that 50 meters (164 ft.) of the metallic barrier were torn apart.
The BMW 2 Series prototype carried on going for about 150 meters (492 ft.), with the accident debris damaging a few vehicles on the oncoming lanes.
The A72 Autobahn was closed on the section where the 2 Series prototype crashed and it took a few hours to clear the debris and remove the car that had started to spill its secrets. Fortunately, the BMW test driver only sustained minor injuries in the accident.
