BMW 2 Series GT Completely Revealed Through Spyshots

Earlier this year, we heard a rumor that the new BMW Active Tourer will end up being called the 2 Series GT when it will be revealed in production form, instead of 1 Series GT as everyone thought.

Initially I dismissed the rumor because of the way things moved in the BMW camp. The new 2 Series was just unveiled and it looked so dynamic and ready to take on the toughest tracks that it seemed unfathomable that BMW would dilute it with an MPV-like model.

Our latest spyshots confirm the rumors though. As you’re about to see, the Active Tourer Concept will end up being called the 2 Series GT when it comes out, as the car shown in the pictures below wears a 225i badge on the tailgate.

That’s the biggest news of the weekend. On top of that, we can actually see how the new 5-seater from BMW will look like, since the car was caught during a photo shoot, wearing no camouflage whatsoever.

As for the design, nothing much has changed from the Concept, the car wearing almost identical headlights and taillights and the overall shape of the people carrier looking drastically similar to the car that has been paraded around at all the major auto shows of the year.

Under the bonnet, the 2er GT will be using the UKL FWD platform that is currently being used by MINI for the first time in the making of the Mk3 Cooper. Judging by the badge on it, the cars will have more than just 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engines, as it was rumored, going at least up to a 2-liter 4-cylinder unit that makes 218 HP, fitted on this 225i.

The car we’re looking at seems to be a 5-seater but previous spyshots revealed that BMW is planning on also adding a 7-seater to the mix, for even more practicality.
