The new car has a distinctive design that goes beyond what the F20 1 Series is offering and also keeps in touch with the original 1M Coupe. At the front you'll notice the new headlights and completely new fascia that forgets the weird look of the 1er whilst at the back the taillights are still reminiscent of the E82 model.

The new car is also bigger than its predecessor, havin 72 mm more in lengths (4.432 mm), being wider by 32 mm (1,744 mm), with a wheelbase longer by 30 mm (2,690 mm) and improved interior space that offers 19 extra mm of headroom in the front and 21 extra mm of legroom in the back.

One of the biggest add-ons is the folding rear backrest that can be split 40:20:40, making this model more practical than its predecessor. Furthermore, the boot has 20 extra liters adding up to 390 liters of space.

The 2er will come out with 5 engine variants, looking to provide an alternative for every taste. At first there will be 3 diesel choices and 2 petrol choices out of which one will be an M Performance vehicle, the M235i.

The 3 diesels will be an entry-level 218d with 143 HP and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque, a 220d model with 184 HP and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque and a 225d version with 218 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque, all of them using the same 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

Excepting the high-performance M235i, the other petrol model will be the 220i that will be using a 2-liter turbocharged engine with 184 HP and 270 Nm (200 lb-ft) of torque.

All cars will be available with a manual 6-speed gearbox and the automatic 8-speed ZF as an optional, to increase both fuel efficiency and performance.

For BMW performance numbers are vital so, you can imagine that the new cars will be delivering. For example, the 218d model will be reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.9 seconds whilst also returning a fuel consumption of 4.2 liters on average (for the automatic).

Inside, the cockpit doesn't show too many changes and will retain the same classic design focused on the driver. BMW is also bragging that the new Coupe will deliver unmatched driving characteristics, similar to the spiritual ancestor of the 2 Series, the 02 models. Hopefully, the cars will deliver, as there are big hopes involved here.

So, there you have it folks, right out of the horse's mouth. Everything you need to know about the new 2 Series and a huge photo gallery of the new models. What do you think of it? Would you buy one?
