It seems like BMW won't wait any longer and already began the production of their brand new model, the 2 Series, according to automobil-produktion.de. The car will be built in the same complex as the X1, F20 and F21 1 Series and the i3.
Later, in 2014, the i8 hybrid plug-in sports car will join the team in the same German city, where BMW invested EUR400.000.000. The plant will be making 740 2 Series models a day and is able to increase the capacity if needed.
At the moment, there are 3,500 employees working at the Leipzig plant, the same people that built over 150,000 1 Series Coupe models over the last 6 years. As for the models that will be built here, they include the range-topping M235i but the other 2-liter variations too like the 220i, 228i, 220d and 225d.
