BMW took the veils off the 2 Series Convertible quite some time ago but the drop top has yet to reach US shores. This week, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the new 2er will be making its North American debut alongside the world premieres of the X5 M and X6 M models.
For the US market, BMW decided to introduce only 3 convertibles at first: the 228i, M235i and 228i xDrive. Unfortunately, according to an ordering guide we got our hands on early, it seems like the M Performance Automobile will be the only one available with a manual gearbox. The cheaper, lighter 228i versions will only be coming with the ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic box.

Another disappointing piece of news is that all cars sold in the US will be fitted with all-season tires. While for some that’s good news, from a performance point of view, it’s not looking that great.

Even so, they should be an extremely interesting proposition. Prices start at $37,900 for the base 228i, go up by $1,800 for the xDrive version and to $47,700 for the M235i. That’s without the handling and shipping tax of $950.

Standard features on all of them will include multifunction steering wheel, rain sensors and auto headlights, automatic climate controls, Hi-Fi sound system, Bluetooth and USB audio connection and daytime running lights.

Of course, the optionals list is extensive and includes everything you can get on the Coupe already such as a choice of 13 different paint colors, 10 different upholstery versions, different wheels and so on.

The 2 Series Convertible goes into production this month so the first deliveries should start happening early in 2015.
