BMW’s first ever front-wheel drive model - the 2 Series Active Tourer, was just put through the tests by the European safety dog Euro NCAP. The result? Five brilliant stars for the first ever MPV from Munich.
When it comes to safety features, BMW didn’t cut back on anything to be honest. One of the reasons behind this approach could very well be the fact that the 2 Series Active Tourer aims at families with small children to which safety is paramount.

Therefore, a combination of extremely interesting steels was used that make sure you and your loved ones will be safe in case of an emergency. The active and passive safety features are also plentiful.

Standard features include airbags for the front passenger and the driver as well as side and head airbags for all seats. Three-point safety belts go all around and feature pre-tensioners.

Electronics also chip in when it comes to keeping you safe

DSC and DTC come as standard, as well as ABS, CBC, DBC and Performance Control for the most powerful versions available. To top it all off, the frontal collision warning system is also standard, allowing you to avoid crashing at speeds up to 20 km/h (13 mph).

Of course, you can go a step further and get more safety features that are only available as optionals. Things like adaptive cruise control with braking function and stop and go are always useful but they do cost a pretty penny.

As far as the Euro NCAP evaluation went, the 2 Series Active Tourer showed great results in the frontal impact tests as well as the side one, thus becoming one of the few cars tested that gets maximum points for the side impact evaluation.

The model also received very good results for children protection while the active bonnet showed its worth in the pedestrian protection test. Active safety features were also appraised but not taken into consideration due to the fact that not all cars sold will be fitted with them as they come as optional features.
