The second model in the 2 Series range is here and, this time, it’s front wheel drive. Even do, from a BMW everyone expects things to be spectacular behind the wheel, therefore a careful look over the specs was mandatory.
The entry level model will be the 216i, fitted with a 3-cylinder, 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that makes 136 HP and 220 Nm of torque and will be hooked up to a manual 6-speed transmission as standard. Of course, an optional 6-speed will also be available.

At the moment, we don’t have exact mpg numbers but the estimates put it at around 4.9 l/100 km (48 mpg) for the manual and 5.1 l/100 km (46.1 mpg) for the automatic. The 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint will be done in 9.3 seconds with the manual and 0.3 seconds slower with the auto.

The top of the line version will be the 225i, fitted with what could very well be the engine of the JCW MINI, a 2-liter 4-pot turbo unit making 231 HP and 350 Nm of torque from 1,250 RPM. Unfortunately, at first, this model will only be available with the 8-speed automatic ZF unit.

The 0-100 km/h (62 mph) will be done in 6.8 seconds while fuel consumption is currently estimated at 6 l/100 km (39.2 mpg) on a combined cycle. CO2 emissions rated at 139 grams per km.

Finally, we get to the diesel variant, the 218d that will be sharing the engine with the new X3 LCI, a 4-pot turbodiesel unit making 150 HP and 330 Nm of torque that can be hooked up to either a manual 6-speed or an automatic 8-speed unit.

However, regardless of the transmission choice, it will do 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in 8.9 seconds and will return an average fuel consumption of 4.1 l/100 km (57.3 mpg) with 109 g/km of CO2.

In November, the BMW 2 Active Tourer will get new options, including the xDrive all-wheel-drive transmission and M Sport line package.
