BMW 1 Series Sedan Rendered

Since BMW decided to attack all possible niches, inventing a couple of its own in the process as well, rendering a new one shouldn’t surprise anyone. That’s why Theophilus Chin’s take on a possible 1 Series Sedan didn’t raise any eyebrows over here, at the autoevolution headquarters.

Looking over what the competition has to offer, such a model is more than possible. The only unknown at the moment is whether it will be built under the 1 Series moniker or the 2 Series one. A 2 Series Gran Coupe would make more sense. In a way... As far as this Gran Coupe trend can make sense.

It would take on the A3 Sedan and the CLA-Class from Audi and Mercedes, respectively and give them a run for their money. It would also become the smallest sedan in the offering from BMW, slotted below the 3 Series.

Since this would be a small car, smaller engines would also be used, part of the B-engine family. With displacements ranging from 1.5-liter to 2-liters, the power outputs could be between around 90 HP to over 200. Petrol and diesel alternatives would be available.

However, space would be limited in the back and other downsides would also surface in the meanwhile. Dynamically, though, it would be a superior car compared to the 3 Series, as far as the engines would allow it.

The only problem left to solve would be the pricing, as it would have to be competitive in comparison with its rivals. With the A3 Sedan and CLA-Class both starting at $29,900, the Bavarians couldn’t afford to go over the $30,000 limit.
