It seems like the first FWD BMW is already sparking a lot of controversy, as it was expected, since the German company has always taken pride in its RWD exclusive layout and its fans expected it to keep going this way.
Initially, all the world over thought that the Active Tourer Outdoor Concept will be materialized into what we called the 1 Series GT but a recent report from Bimmerpost claims the name will be changed, the company ruling that the new model will be called ‘2 Series Active Tourer’.

Up until now, the guys over at Bimmerpost proved they really have some inside info on various matters regarding BMWs and they got it right almost every time. That’s why we find it hard to believe they are wrong this time but facts seem to point in a different direction.

After all, the new model will be using a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that was announced for the 1 Series and not the 2 Series. Furthermore, it will be using the same platform and chassis as the future 1ers.

On top of all that, the 2 Series is a Coupe and, according to BMW’s new naming scheme, its name should be preserved for Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe models, even though on a smaller scale. So why would the Munich-based company destroy all that hard work they did with the 4 Series and 2 Series just to add an MPV to their model range? It doesn’t make sense...
