Everybody’s heard of the classic Blower Bentleys, true racing machines that have their dedicated place in the automotive history book. One of the most special of these is the one that was used by Tim Birkin to set multiple speed records back in the day.
Birkin’s 1929 4 1/2 Litre Betley managed to fetch a mind-blowing $7 million (EUR5.7 million at the current exchange rates) at an auction that was recently held by Bonhams at Goodwood, UK. This is even more impressive than the 137 mph (220 km/h) average speed record it managed to set on Brookland’s outer track.
The auction house has released a video that allows us to see how the sale went on from its perspective and we’re inviting you to enjoy this below. The story is told by James Knight, group director of the Bonhams motoring department.
