The first thing you'll observe while watching the new Kia television spot is that LA Clippers’ power forward seems tall even when he's sitting on a chair. Then, you can’t help but notice all the heavenly clouds, which can only mean one thing, Blake Griffin is in Eden. Well, he’s not, and nor is the fellow who’s driving the 2016 Optima.
Worry not, NBA maniacs, nothing bad has happened to Griffin. Heck, he hasn’t been better. Four years ago, the basketball star was named one of NBA’s 15 Greatest Rookies of All Time by Sports Illustrated. Since then, Griffin has been an All-Star every season he has played and has helped make the Clippers perennial playoff contenders.

With such a profile, it’s only natural Kia wants him promoting their new models as often as possible. Last time Griffin did a gig with the South Korean carmaker, the 6 ft 10 in (2.08 m) NBA star was playing the character of a Texas cowboy, but this clip is quite a lot better. Again, the scene happens up in the skies, literally, only that it’s supposed to be something much rather like the depth of mind.

When LA Clippers superstar Blake Griffin reaches peak performance, he’s next-level. Or in Kia’s perception, the NBA Ace is in the zone. Whether he’s dunking over someone or reading sports news, time seems to slow down. And the South Koreans want us to trust that a similar thing happens the moment you grab the steering wheel of the new Kia Optima.

About that, the real headline with the all-new 2016 model is that it’s available with two turbocharged engines. Oh, yes, we’re hinting at the fact that the 1.6-liter with forced induction is available and comes mated as standard to a seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). The 1.6-liter is offered on the LX trim. 178 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque at just 1,500 rpm - these numbers should do for most of Kia’s fans.
