We really don't need any reason to take another look at the 918 Spyder, the hottest Porsche model to come out in about a decade. But a photo shoot with a black hypercar fitted with custom wheels seems like a really good thing to share.
This particular 918 has been kitted out with a set of HRE ultra-light forged alloy wheels and actually made its debut back in 2014 at the SEMA show. However, it was the star of a more recent photo shoot in the middle of a desert, where the setting sun cast sharp shadows in the shape of our favorite Stuttgart hybrid.
The wheels in question are the HRE P101 and they feature a Brushed Dark Clear finish, though not one that's as dark as the car. At the front, the alloys measure 20 by 9.5 inches, while at the back that is increased to 21x12.5 inches. Michelin's Pilot Sport Cup tires probably do more for the performance than the alloy wheels, though they don't really shine in the photos.
In case the trio of hybrid hypercars circling the web scrambled your brain, remember that the 918 Spyder is powered by a 4.6-liter naturally aspirated V8 making 605 hp. Porsche worked hard to combine that with two electric motors and provide an 887 hp total output.
The main idea behind the Weissach Package is that you pay more so that Porsche can give you less… weight. Carbon fiber is noticeable throughout, from the aggressive rear bumpers fins and rear wing, mirrors and front window frames. Even the interior features carbon trim and a six-point seatbelt for the driver and passenger.
As a result of 40 fewer kilos to carry around, the Weissach-equipped 918 gets from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.6 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the standard model. It takes just 7.2 seconds to travel from zero to 124 mph (200 km/h, 0.5 second reduction), and 19.9 seconds to pass the next 62 mph (300 km/h, a 2.1 second reduction).
