Black Friday 2009: Lucky Those with GPS!

Gentlemen, start your GPSs! It is the start of the holiday season shopping frenzy and, crisis aside, there's no better time to buy things you really don't need than on Black Friday. {ad]

Yet, because we are living in the information age, the 2009 Black Friday customer needs a little helping hand to find the stores where the best offers are. And that help comes, of course, from your everyday GPS.

According to a study by Networks In Motion, Black Friday holiday shoppers have a better chance of making something of their Black Friday if they use the GPS for locating a store.

According to the study, the most sought after store is Walmart, who is the most searched destination, followed by Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, Sam's Club and Toys R' Us.

OK, so where does the GPS come in? Networks In Motion says chances are shoppers will not spend their Friday in one store alone, but "travel to as many stores as possible to fulfill all their shopping needs."

So having a GPS gives you an extra edge over the unlucky ones who don't. Besides giving you directions to the next store, the GPS can help you cheat a bit by taking short-cuts, avoiding congestion and such. The study found that on Black Friday, GPS traffic per person increases to over 17 individual navigation sessions, 85 percent more than on the average day.

"To take advantage of the best deals on Black Friday, shoppers need to travel to multiple stores, and it really is not a surprise that people turn to their mobile navigation devices to help them find their way," Steve Andler, Networks In Motion marketing vice president said in a release.

Now, there is only one thing left to say... Good hunting, shoppers!
