Biking Down a Bobsleigh Track Is Adrenaline in Its Purest Form

There are things so intense you don’t even have to try them yourself to get the goosebumps: it’s enough to watch others risk their lives for a hefty dose of thrills and a shot at the elusive Internet stardom.
As if regular bobsleighing weren’t a dangerous enough sport - those guys regularly do close to 100 mph in a metal can that offers very little control - somebody thought that it was a shame to have that concrete track sit around and do nothing during the summer, so they decided to try and go down using a different vehicle.

The three riders - there’s probably another one at the back - are Kamer Kolar, Tarik Hadzic and Kemal Mulic, and their venue is located on mountain Trebevic, near Sarajevo. It’s an abandoned bobsleigh track that has somehow managed to remain in one piece over many years of inactivity, not to mention the troubled times this part of the world has seen during the late ‘90s.

The kids might actually be on to something here. While opening up unused bobsleigh tracks to the public is the worst idea possible, turning them into some kind of roller-coster makes perfect sense. Instead of decaying fruitlessly, with a minimum investment, they could be made into successful attractions for kids and adults alike.

What do you imagine was the people’s reaction after seeing this clip? Do you think they condemned them for using the track for an unspecific purpose? Nope, everybody wanted to know where it was so that they could go there too. But that’s dangerous. Just because these three came out OK, it doesn’t mean that all who will dare to take a ride on the bobsleigh will be as skillful or as lucky.

In fact, no further than the beginning of this month there was an accident where two people lost their lives and several were injured. The group illegally entered a bobsleigh track after hours in Calgary, Canada, and attempted to go down using their own amateur equipment. The Huffington Post reports that the youngsters hit a gate halfway through that’s used to separate the bobsleigh from the luge track.

That’s one more reason these places should be kept in working condition and everything that happens on them be very well organized. The clip’s description says the maximum speed reached by the bikers was 62 km/h (about 39 mph), and you don’t need a lot of imagination to figure out what happens when human flesh hits the concrete at that speed. It’s not a coincidence that the YouTube channel that loaded the video is called Bike Kamikaze.
