Motorcycle and scooter riders int he Philippines are up in protest against some of the most delirious and silly law projects we ever heard of: banning riding with a pillion and wearing a vest with the bike's number plates printed on it.

We all know the drill: when politicians are no longer able to provide decent solutions for certain problems in a country (any country) some of them will always come up with outrageously stupid law proposals to level things out.

Do they ever care about who profits from such cretin ideas? Of course they do, because it's always them. Do they care about the severe negative impact on huge numbers of law-abiding citizens? Never!

The local government invoked the raising motorcycle-related criminality in the metropolitan area of capital Manila as the trigger for such a law. So basically it's all down to what I already told you.

Instead of admitting failure to put a cap on the raising criminality and supplementing Police financing and ranks, or enforcing stricter punishment and fees for those caught on the wrong side of law, why not coming up with a dumb idea?

Would this solve any problem? Not. Will it cause an uproar? Definitely!
