Ever since Tesla decided to fit its cars with a large number of cameras that keep recording round the clock, there seems to be no safe haven for wrongdoers on the road and off it. Just as this latest video of a totally random act of violence goes to show.
At the end of last week, Youtuber and Tesla Model 3 owner Brandon McGowen posted a couple of videos showing how a casual trip down a highway in Lincoln, California, can take a turn for violence.

The clip shows the Model 3 coasting down the road, right behind a motorcyclist who moments before allegedly merged directly in front of the car, on the fast lane. For reasons unknown, the biker then slows down and keeps going at a speed of 50 mph for several seconds.

The driver of the car doesn’t say what he did to pi*s the biker off, if anything, but the motorcycle suddenly moves to the middle lane and the rider is seen waving the Tesla to pass him.

The car’s front-facing camera captured all these images. Cut to the rear-facing ones, and we get the see the biker’s actions right after the Tesla passes him.

In a fit of rage brought on by unknown circumstances, the guy accelerates his bike and, as it passes the car, extends his hand to smash the Model 3’s right mirror.

“Here is the video leading up to this guy breaking off my mirror. He merged onto the freeway directly in front of me, then slowed down to 50mph, moved over and broke off my mirror,” McGowen says. You can watch the videos below.

After things calmed down, the driver reported the incident and apparently the California Highway Patrol, using the images he provided, was able to identify the motorcycle rider.

It’s unclear what the consequences will be for him, but this goes to show, once again, you can’t just go around keying or snapping things off a car everybody knows is continuously recording stuff.
