This is why it’s never a good idea to take justice into your own hands while on the road – or anywhere else, for that matter.
A biker is now being wanted by the police after he became judge, jury and executioner in what he assumed was an obvious case of drunk-driving. The incident happened at the weekend in Surrey, UK, Surrey Live reports, and the motorcyclist has gone MIA since it happened.
Surrey Police is now asking the public for help with tracking him down, because he is wanted for assault. He would have been guilty of it even if he weren’t mistaken about the reason the driver he hit was acting so erratically in traffic, but that’s a different story.
According to the police, at around 10 a.m. on Saturday, motorists started calling in to report an apparently drunk driver. He was a man in his 40s driving a blue Alfa Romeo Giulietta and he was going in and out of traffic with no apparent consideration for the other drivers.
He hit several cars and careered towards the hard shoulder, where he eventually came to a full stop. Other motorists also pulled over to assess the situation and detain the driver. He was showing clear signs of being incapacitated.
That’s when a motorcyclist also pulled over. He went over to the driver, punched him and then got back on his bike and drove off. As it turns out, once he arrived at a local hospital, it was established that the man wasn’t drunk: he was having a stroke.
“It soon became apparent that the driver, a man in his 40s, had suffered a medical episode. He is still in hospital receiving treatment,” Surrey Police says in a statement. “We are now appealing to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or may know who the driver of the motorcycle is.”
Police are also looking for the drivers of a taxi airport and a green MINI, who also stopped at the scene of the accident but drove off before emergency services arrived.
