Biker Breaks Leg on Wedding Day after Receiving 'Break a Leg' Text

There are just too few of us that recognize the power of the spoken word or the power of our minds. The ‘be careful what you wish for’ is a very true saying, and the following story comes to strengthen that. A groom broke his leg in a motorbike crash while on his way to the church, minutes after receiving a text saying – you guessed it – ‘Break a leg!’

Nick Fortey, 42, had rented a Harley-Davidson to ride to his wedding to marry Emma Byrne, 28, when he got into an accident with a car, breaking his leg in no less than three places.

That is how instead of walking down the aisle, Fortey went to the hospital for an emergency surgery, leaving his fiancee to hold their reception on her own. Byrne had the first dance on her own, cut her wedding cake alone, and made a thank you speech all by herself.

“I think we’ll be hiring a car to take us to the church, though – unless I can find someone to lend me a tank to get him there safely,” said the bride-to-be. “And next time, absolutely no one is allowed to tell my husband to break a leg.”

Fortey went to pick up the classic bike on the morning of his wedding, the Telegraph reports, but ironically, minutes before he set off to church he received a text message from his cousin Wendy reading: "Just wanted to say enjoy your day and break a leg."

“I really wanted to ride a Harley-Davidson to my wedding. I never imagined in a million years that I’d end up coming off it – especially after being told to break a leg,”
Fortey was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source. “I can see the irony in it now but it wasn’t very funny at the time.”
