Biggest Baddest Alpina Shows up in New York for the First Time

Marking yet another North American debut, the Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe stunned the crowd when it was introduced at the New York Auto Show yesterday. And rightfully so.

The B6 is absolutely exquisite and, apart from bringing a lot of luxury and comfort to the table, it’s also a menacing appearance for the M6 Gran Coupe. Don’t start laughing just yet.

Looking over the numbers, you’ll be surprised of what you’ll find. The Alpina creation is based on BMW’s 650i model and uses the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that makes 450 HP and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque in the standard guise.

Over here though, the N63 engine was taken up to no less than 540 HP and 540 lb-ft (723 Nm) of torque thanks to bigger turbochargers and a remapped ECU. Furthermore, compared to the M6, this car also has all-wheel-drive onboard, therefore it’s even faster to 100 km/h (62 mph) despite not using a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox but rather a more ‘conventional’ 8-speed ZF unit that was reprogrammed.

60 mph comes in just 3.7 seconds, a staggering 0.3 seconds faster than inside the BMW, going up to a top speed of 198 mph (318 km/h) which tramples over M6’s 190 mph (305 km/h).

This debut also celebrates the second Alpina car put up for sale in the US, joining its bigger brother, the B7 model that has been available for quite a while on American land. Prices start at $118,225.
