Filippo Barbacane of Officine Rossopuro fame is a Buell fan and anyone could tell this juts by taking a look at his X1 remake, the Big Red.
The Big Red is based on a very modern machine, a 2012 Buell 1200 X1, which is powered by almost the same v-twin unit as the Harley-Davidson 1200 Sportster. However, Erik Buell's version of the engine involves dual Thunderstorm cylinder heads which take power to the 95 HP mark and change the whole nature of the game.
With the Buell being already a mean machine, Barbacane had to re-think a bit the overall design, and the resulting bike manages to blend in both the aggressive styling of the initial motorcycle and the trademark refined custom air of the Rossopuro builds.
It took 6 months to make all the necessary changes, and the time was well spent: the Big Red now rolls with cast aluminium wheels, with new, hub-mounted rotors, a Marzocchi Rac 50 fork, and an awesome Ohlins underbelly rear shock.
The rear of the bike has been completely rebuilt in aluminium and now has a sporty, minimalist design, with racing pipes and silencer placed next to the shock, under the bike. The diminutive body parts have been crafted in fiberglass and received a bright paint job in classic white-red-blue racing colors.
A digital, space-age Motogadget instrument cluster replaces the olde gauges and makes the whole build look even more aggressive. We'd like to see more Buell-based wonders, and Filippo's example should be followed by more builders.
