There are currently more resto modded Camaros in Heaven and Earth than dreamt of by Chevrolet back in the day. And a good portion of them were inspired by the build in the gallery below.
Once a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro in its purest form, the car got into the hands of a custom shop that goes by the name of Detroit Speed a while back and, in the early 2000s, was turned into a machine that became known in the industry as the Twister. Legend has it it is one of the first properly resto modded first-gen Camaros, and inspired many of the others that followed after that.

And such a legend behind it is a perfect reason for its value to go up with every passing year. We’ll get to see just how much this build is worth today next month, when it sells as part of the Mecum Eddie Vannoy collection auction.

The visual enhancements made to the Camaro are obvious. The Bright Yellow body, complete with and Endura-style front bumper, sits lower to the ground, propped on large 18-inch, 10 spoke billet aluminum wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. This stance, combined with the styling of the front end, gives the Camaro a particularly unique appearance.

Inside, nearly all the original elements have been swapped for new, custom ones: bucket seats, dashboard, pedals, shifter, door handle, window cranks and instrument layout.

Under the hood of the Twister Camaro, Detroit Speed fitted a 406ci (6.6 liters) V8 of undisclosed power and tied it to a 6-speed manual transmission usually found on Dodge Vipers.

The Twister Camaro is listed by Mecum for sale with no reserve (like most of the cars that are part of the Eddie Vannoy collection), which means it will go under the hammer to the highest bidder, no matter the price.
