There’s no doubting how strong the Buick brand has gotten following the bankruptcy of General Motors, and now it sounds like bigger and better things are in store over the next few years. Already boasting one of the freshest lineups of any automaker, Buick is planning a plethora of new or updated models between now and the 2018 model year, according to Automotive News.
One of the first new models to kick off the automaker’s next chapter is the 2016 Buick Envision, which was just revealed in China. Buick desperately needs a mid-size crossover, and the Envision (shown above) fits that bill. This model is expected to go on sale in China early next year and sometime during the second half of the year for U.S. buyers.
Also arriving next year, the 2016 Buick LaCrosse will receive a complete redesign that is expected to further distinguish it from vehicles like the Buick Regal and Chevrolet Impala. These cars will all share GM’s new E2XX platform, which will debut on the 2016 LaCrosse. Like many luxury sedans, the LaCrosse will likely feature smaller displacement engines, although it’s not clear if any type of forced induction will factor into the equation.
The 2016 calendar year could shape up to be the year of the small cars for Buick. Two of Buick’s newest current products, the Verano and Encore, will substantial updates. Arriving in early 2016, the 2017 Buick Verano gets an all-new design, while the still-relatively-new Encore gets a mid-cycle refresh. The biggest news, though, might be that Buick is finally looking to introduce a small convertible based on the European Opel Cascada.
In spring of 2017, the all-new Buick Enclave will hit scene with a new platform and more advanced powertrain options. Interestingly, the article also suggests that the next-gen Cadillac SRX will move up to this new platform away from the smaller Theta Premium platform on which it currently rides.
Finally, one of the brand’s hottest current models, the Buick Regal, will get a complete redesign in the middle of 2017 for the 2018 model year. While all this bodes well for Buick and its customers, there I still no mention of the Grand National, T-Type and GNX models that have been rumored in recent years.
