Most BMW fans know everything about the company's dedicated packages and the letter used to abbreviate them. That's why the phrase "320i with ZSP and ZMT" will be easily understood by a BMW fanatic but not other people.
Back when the E46 was being made, BMW offered some special packages for the iconic 3er. They had different abbreviations like ZSP, ZMT, ZCW, ZHP and each stood for something.

For example, the ZCW stood for Cold Weather package, the ZHP for High Performance, whilst the ZSP meant Sport Package and ZMT referred to Manual Transmission. Over the years, most BMW Aficionados continued to used these 'code names' for other models too.

The guys from Jalopnik did some research and found out that the best fun to price to performance ratio you could find for a sports sedan in the US at the moment would be the 320i with ZSP and ZMT.

The 180 HP Bimmer hooked up with a Sport Package for $1,300 (€994) and a manual transmission (which is free) adds up to $34,745 (€26,579) and you'll get everything you need for a proper sporty sedan: M Sport suspension, Anthracite Headliner, M Steering wheel, 18" alloy wheels with Performance Tires, Sport Seats and, of course, the 6-speed manual transmission.

That is quite a good offer. Some might complain that the 180 HP might not be enough for a sportive feel and that there are other cars that offer you more power for the same money. That might be true but you will lack the manual transmission, as the main competitors: Volvo S60 and Cadillac 2.0T ATS come only with automatic transmissions in the US.

Furthermore, the 3er is lighter on its feet and more agile than its main competitor, the 2.0T ATS, which comes at roughly the same price but with 32 more HP. Even the Caddy has some extra grunt on paper, real life test showed that the BMW is quicker, both in drag races and track events.

Bottom line, the 320i with the Sport Package and Manual Transmission is the best buy for the moment for a sportive sedan under $35,000 (€26,700).
