Best May for Audi in the US

Building on the sales results of past months, German manufacturer Audi reported today that the month that just ended was the best in its history in the US, and at the same time the third best month since the four-ringed brand is operating in the US.

With a total of 10,457 vehicles sold, the 13.6 percent increase in sales puts Audi on the right track for becoming what mother group Volkswagen is intending for it to become. Soon after the opening of its new plant in Chattanooga, the German auto group said that, if supported by the sales numbers, an Audi factory might just become a necessity.

According to the Germans, the increase in sales was brought about by the introduction of the flagship A7, which accounted for 812 out of the total number of units sold. That is well over half of the entire increase posted for May. Other best-selling models were the A3, the A4, the A8, the Q5, the Q7, the R8 (with sales increase of 135.7 percent year-over-year to 99 vehicles sold in May 2011) and the TT, who all posted increase over the previous months.

“Audi continues to make measurable gains in the high-end sector of the luxury car market in the U.S. Our current models are the most technologically-advanced vehicles Audi has ever produced and our progressive luxury positioning continues to set Audi apart from its competitors,” said the president of Audi of America, Johan de Nysschen. “Audi is on track to capture the leadership position in the U.S. luxury market.”
