Best British Rider to Win a Yamaha Bike

The IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) is offering a new Yamaha motorcycle for the rider who can beat the rest in a series of tests of riding skill. The IAM is using the competition to promote its Skill for Life program, which is destined to help riders be better and safer.

To win the 2010 Advanced Rider of the Year award, buyers of the Skill for Life rider programme will have to pass the IAM advanced bike test. The deadline is August 31, 2010. The top 50 riders as scored by IAM examiners in the test assessment will then go through to further stages to test their rider skills.

The first will be a track-based event in the UK in September 2010 where riders will be assessed in a number of separate modules including items such as slow speed control, braking judgment, etc.

The second stage will be conducted in October 2010 on a regional basis to the participant on public roads, and after which an overall winner will be announced. As said, the winner will get to choose the new Yamaha model bike of his or her choice, up to the total retail (including on the road costs) value of £11,500.

“The IAM are clearly committed to riders and our interests. I for one am going to take up the challenge and will apply for an IAM Skill for Life riding programme in the spring. I hope more people will join me and further improve their riding skills and enjoyment,” Journalist and broadcaster Vicki Butler-Henderson said in a release.

“Behind the prize is a serious motive. We want to raise awareness of advanced riding and its role in improving road safety, and reach as many people as possible who could improve their riding skills and confidence,” added Simon Best, IAM CEO.
