Bertone Sued Bertone...

... and of course Bertone won. The two Bertone women in charge of Stile Bertone, the Italian automotive styling studio, got into yet another disagreement because of former Pininfarina and Ghia designer Emanuele Nicosia and ended up in court to settle the dispute.

To make the long story short, Lilli Bertone (mother) wanted the designer to help the company boost its sales, while Marie Jeanne Bertone (daughter and Bertone vice chairman), accompanied by managing director Teresio Gigi Gaudio opposed Nicosia's intentions to work for the company.

The dispute heated up over Nicosia's future role in the company. While Lilli Bertone said she wanted him to act as a business adviser for the company, the daughter found evidence (a plain old business card) that pointed to the fact that Nicosia was in fact the managing director.

"After seeing that evidence, we began a court action to protect Stile Bertone's business," Marie Jeanne was quoted as saying by Autonews. Even if Nicosia denied any such allegations, saying that "I never told anyone I was managing director," the case went to court and the action succeeded, preventing Nicosia from working for Bertone.

This dispute is only the last battle of a war started last year by mother Bertone, when she agreed to sell Stile Bertone and the coachbuilding division to Domenico Reviglio, Gruppo Prototipo' founder. What upset the other members of her family was that she didn't even control all the shares sold, as well as neglecting to notify her daughters.

As part of the court settlement in the Nicosia affair, Stile Bertone posted an advertisement on the Autonews website, stating that Nicosia never held any corporate positions within the company, nor has she ever been its managing director.
