British automaker Bentley says its upcoming ultra-luxury SUV, which is scheduled to go on sale in 2016, will create a new segment.
“It will be the world’s most expensive and luxurious SUV,” said Kevin Rose, Bentley’s global head of sales and marketing, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, confirming that the vehicle will share its platform with the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne and arrive with a V12 engine that will deliver 575 HP to 650 HP.
When asked about the SUV’s off-road capability, Rose said the Bentley will match Range Rover offerings. "This really is an SUV. In the Middle East it has to go up and down sand dunes, and in Europe it has to be able to tow stuff in the wet field,” he added.
The Bentley SUV is expected to cost around €180,000 ($240,000) and the company hopes to sell 3,000 to 4,000 per year, with one third to be delivered in the United States.
