The weather outside is of little importance to Bentley engineers - this summer is hotter than ever for them, since they are working overtime to develop the automaker’s future SUV.
We are now bringing you a fresh set of spy photos, which show the prototype riding considerably lower than before - a hint that the engineers are currently testing the air suspension on mountainous roads.

The suspension will be part of the plethora of bespoke elements that will offer the Bentley an unique feel, despite the vehicle sharing the third-generation Volkswagen Group SUV architecture with future models such as the Lamborghini Urus or the second-gen Audi Q7.

When it comes to the power department, Bentley’s lips are almost as sealed as the wood pores on veneers. The only thing the Brits have revealed so far is that the SUV will be the brand’s first plug-in hybrid, a powertrain option that’s subsequently set to be offered for every model in the line-up.

Bentley recently said it would continue to develop W12 engine, which makes this a likely candidate for the SUV’s engine compartment. Nonetheless, the V8 that’s been exposing new sides of the Continental family’s personality may also be on the list.

Oil-burning power shouldn’t be excluded either, simply because of the hefty market demand. A revamped incarnation of Audi’s V8 TDI would work well here, for instance.

Bentley is keeping its SUV as covered as ever, so, for now, we’re stuck with the previous conclusion, namely that, visually, this will be a more solid incarnation of the Flying Spur, obviously in a two-box design. Previous prototype encounters have assured us the details should be even more lavish than before, at least as far as the LED light clusters are concerned.

A past Alpine road stint of the Bentley SUV has revealed the vehicle will introduce a number of firsts for the brand, including a digital dashboard and a Head-Up Display.

Bentley will introduce its SUV to the world in 2016, with the hybrid version set to arrive one year later. As for the financial side, expect the Bentley SUV to start at around£140,000 (around $235.000/€172,700).
