The fact that Bentley will build an SUV is basically a certainty right now, and according to some reports, their factory in Crewe is re-tooling as we speak in order to prepare for this. It’s a car built to make money and to stabilize their sales figures.
But the SUV wasn’t their only choice, as a model for a sportscar has reportedly been sitting on the desk of Bentley’s chief designer. We thought we’d never get to see that car, but according to a report from Car and Driver, we will, as a concept shown at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.
Right now, Bentley isn’t talking about production for this sportscar, but it will preview a new design direction for the company, one which should influence all future models. Although with the Mulssanne, facelifted GT and the Flying Spur already on the market, only the EXP 9 F could benefit from the design change.
Bentley CEO Wolfgang Duerheimer previously said that the sportscar was not chosen for production because it overlapped with the Porsche 911. Of course, VW Group also makes the Audi R8, and they own Lamborghini through Audi, so overlapping isn’t really a problem.
autoevolution will be attending the Paris Motor Show 2012, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
