Bentley Sales Going Down

The rapid growth of Bentley sales has come to a halt this year. The British superlxury brand enjoyed terrific years and its growth just stopped lately. A Bentley official stated that sales will decline by 30% both worldwide and in the United States.

At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Stuart McCullough, Bentley's board member for worldwide sales and marketing said that he expects the sales to fall from 10,014 units in 2007 to 7,000 units. He also said that North American sales would decline from 4,290 last year to about 3,000. In October U.S. sales tumbled by 30.1% reaching 2,333 units.

"We're not putting on dealer cash or cash for retailing, but we're helping fund dealer stock levels." He also stated that if a dealer is considerably above inventory levels, the manufacturer will provide assistance. The constructor has cut its production to 5% this year. "We saw the cascade coming," McCullough said.

At the Los Angeles Motor Show, Bentley presented a gorgeous special edition Azure. This model is called the Azure T and is powered by a 6.5 liter V8 engine that pumps out 500 HP. It sprints from 0 to 60 in 5 seconds and has a top speed of 174mph despite the fact that it is a fat frog, weighing 5,198 pounds (around 2,360 kilograms).

Only 400 will be made, but we think that Bentley doesn't understand what an economics crisis means, because the car costs a whopping $400,000. With that price tag, there will be no queues outside Bentley dealers.

Bentley is one of the defining sports car manufacturer that can brag about their sporting heritage. The Bentley boys were a group of wealthy British motorists who drove the cars so they could establish the brand.
