Bentley's Coupe-Styled SUV Expected Before Baby Bentayga

Bentley’s Bentayga appears to be a recipe for success, and the British brand might turn it into a line of models.

While this may not be news to all, Bentley is reportedly considering two Bentayga derivatives. One of them is referred to as the “baby Bentayga,” and it refers to Bentley’s equivalent of the Porsche Macan. Just like the latter, Bentley might not launch its baby SUV right after the main off-roader, but that market introduction could be further delayed for a few years.

Instead of a baby Bentayga, Bentley is expected to march on with a coupe-styled SUV based on the Bentayga platform. This model is supposed to come in 2019, shortly after the Bentayga plug-in hybrid is expected on the market. The brand from Crewe will not bring a coupe per se, but a four-door SUV with a few styling cues from coupe models. A sloped roof is surely among them.

Bentley’s plans with the Bentayga will not be concluded with the coupe-styled SUV, as the company is also working on a “Speed” version of this model, which will come with a performance optimization. Offering an extended-wheelbase variant of the company’s first SUV should not be ruled out.

People expect Bentley to launch the baby Bentayga around the year 2020. While it may appear that it will come to market too late, its creators will have to wait until then because customers and potential clients must get used to the idea of a Bentley SUV, and provide a more affordable model in the range is a tricky proposition.

The coupe-styled SUV made on the Bentayga platform will not be cheaper than the latter, which is why it will come to market before the “baby” model. If Bentley plays the cards just right, it will manage to raise output and sales without diluting the brand, which is something that any exclusive automaker is striving to achieve.
